My name is Suzanna Craven Walker

There are very many sites you can go to

and find information on Craven,

But this is one is about the man I came to know

This website is permanently under construction and will be added to, 

and updated from time to time. I feel that photos tell their own story and instead

of lying in my drawer or fading in a photo album on the shelf, 

I should like to share them here with the world.

A TRULY UNIQUE AND INTERESTING MAN.....

who who through his invention of the Astro Lamp

TOUCHED millions of people’s lives,

                                - hardly a day goes by without we see one on TV…

He is also know to thousands in the ‘’Naturist World’’ as CRAVEN,

and played pivotal, pioneering role in it’s development and the

free and idealistic life that Naturism can bring.

 A law unto himself, strong, dynamic, and a creative, innovative businessman

 with a fierce drive and determination and the constant,relentless energy of a

twenty year old, he was acknowledge widely as the one of the main

driving forces in the development of the Naturist Movement in the UK.

He made the first Naturist Film to be passed by the British Board of Film Censors

and shown in Public Cinemas.  ‘’Travelling Light’’ (1959/60-in full colour filmed in 16mm)

which represented his amateur attempt at a propergander film to show the world how

Naturists lived simply and happily without shame or inhibitions

and where he tried to convey the feeling he had when he first encountered

a group of young, healthy, tanned Naturists innocently enjoying the,

sun, sea, sand and freedom amongst like minded people on the Ile du Levant.

He also was the creator and owner of B.D.O.C. Bournemouth & District Outdoor Club. 

In it’s heyday it was considered to be the best in the UK.  

He was very proud of his Club and totally immersed his time, money and life to it for nearly 40 years. It was the enormous success of his Astro Lamp (Lava Lamp) that allowed him to devote himself and energy to create such a wonderful, natural, secluded, south facing grassy club, with it’s huge swimming pool, sauna, 6 miniten courts & volleyball courts, and clubhouse.

He invited people to become members and enjoy his creation. I know that for very many thousands of people, Craven’s Club, belief in and enthusiasm for Naturism completely

changed their lives, and that of their children and families.

They not only enjoyed the joy & opportunity to get away from the rat race and relax amongst like-minded individuals in Craven’s little paradise, but also made lifelong soul mate friends, who they found had the same beliefs, views, standards, values and sense of freedom in being naked as them …
